Wow! What a day!  Sorry this blog is a little later, but the site was having a few slight difficulties and I could not upload when I first tried.  Today we seemed to get a lot of people caught up and finished with projects they have been working on!  Lot of really neat volcano paintings are hanging in our hallway now because EVERYONE was able to finish those up today!  YEA!!  ONLY one flat person is not mailed yet!  ALL OTHERS HAVE BEEN SENT OFF and I am really excited for the kids to start getting them back in the mail!  It is SUPER FUN to send things, but receiving something back to share with the class will be a PRICELESS experience for them.  We are expecting to learn a lot through the eyes of our FLAT CLASS!  We also managed to make the last batch of play dough we need for our volcano project tomorrow.  I didn't have to do much with that at all today because after yesterday the kids knew how to do it and did an excellent job with finishing it up today!

In reading today we took our selection test!  A big CONGRATULATIONS goes out to Kate Haines because she scored a 100%!  WOO HOO KATE!  This was probably the hardest test we have taken so far because of all of the facts and information provided in the story!  Several kiddos only missed ONE question and were super close that PERFECT SCORE!  I also had a chance to listen to each of them read as I did a fluency check today and I am VERY PROUD of their reading improvement so far this year!
In math we solved another GET IT TOGETHER clue activity.  Today to do this groups actually had to construct a figure.  It was definitely a CHALLENGE for sure.  Two groups were successful in finding a solution so a BIG GOOD JOB goes out to them.  As we went over the solution we had a GREAT discussion and learned some pretty tough vocabulary words.  We talked about words like: interior, polygon, convex, concave, and similar.  I was happy with how hard they worked to understand the meanings of the words.  Some of them took clues and sticks home tonight so they could test your skills!  GOOD LUCK to everyone trying to solve the puzzle!

We also had a pretty intense area and perimeter lesson in math.  We were able to complete the pattern block portion at school, but they may have one or two questions to finish up at home.  I was SUPER HAPPY with Skylie Shore as she took it upon herself to work ahead a bit and was able to share with the class today all of the different triangle she built from straws!  EXCELLENT JOB SKYLIE!

For lunch I had a great time at Big Cheese with the October Players of the Week.  It is always a great time when you get to sit and just talk to the kids.  Parents you have some pretty terrific kiddos and thanks to them I had a GREAT lunch today!
Tonight they might have to finish:
- a fluency check if they are in the baseball reading group
-a spelling morning work paper - don't forget we have a spelling test on Friday
-a couple of questions on the journal page we worked on in class
-a math review page over perimeter and measurement

Don't forget that we have started a new AR challenge so it is always a good idea to be reading some each night!

Have a GREAT evening!
~Mrs. Jenkins

    My Goal:

I hope to encourage the children in my classroom to love learning the way I do.  Through engaging them in meaningful activities I am certain they will develop a curiosity that will spark their imagination and cause them to want discover all they can while in third grade.  I hope to be able to share, with those of you at home,  everyday  what we have accomplished in the classroom!  Trust me, we will be doing AMAZING things!
