After that we went right to work with a chance to look at "The Lorax". We all knew it was important to do our part to keep the city clean, but today we had to think outside the box a bit because we were put in teams and our teams had a MISSION and a JOB! Our mission was to create a city with truffala trees, animals, a food source, houses, and most importantly protection. Once our CITY was built we had to continue our work because each city needed a CODE of CONDUCT for the citiizens to follow. After all in our Dr. Suess story, we felt ALL the trees would have never been cut down if one of these would have been put in place. Tomorrow we will see just how crafty we were because an INTRUDER will come visiting each and every TOWN. Will the trees manage to stand tall once someone tries to to SNEAK in? Will our animals go unharmed? I guess time will tell. I was SUPER IMPRESSED with the creative efforts I saw today. I few CITY COMMITTEES have some revamping to do, but for the most part a lot of them made sure INTRUDERS would leave empty handed.
In math we worked more on FRACTIONS and enjoyed a tasty M & M treat when we finished. We are doing a great job with vocabulary and even some addition seemed pretty easy. After our fraction review we jumped right back in to working with parenthesis. So many of us were able to chime in when I asked questions to give the class a few freebie answers. EVERYONE knew we were to start by working what was INSIDE the parenthesis first! YEA!
Tomorrow we are celebrating our FEBRUARY AR points. Our party will be in the afternoon. We are eating ICE CREAM SUNDAES! Yummy for sure. We will also have a movie playing and a chance for some free time. Students can bring electronics if they would like to for this. March AR has already started and points have been raised a bit. This month they will need 5 points to qualify and they do need to be sure they are reading points with in or ABOVE their reading level. Some of them are trying to sneak a few tests on books BELOW their reading level. Those points will NOT count towards our monthly challenges.
Tonight they need to make sure their checking account activity, journal page, spelling workbook page, fruit loop fraction page, baseball diamond morning work page, and oobleck experiment sheet are finished.
Have a good evening! Enjoy the SUNSHINE!
