While all of this craziness was taking place we each had a conversion paper on our desks to work on. We decided it was definitely a HARD one which really made us think! We had to figure stuff like how many inches are in 4 yards or how many feet are in one and a half miles. Trust me when I say, I worked hard to PULL the next step from people's little heads so we could eventually find the answers. We did ALMOST all of this page together and I really appreciated the students who participated in the lesson. By the end they were catching on. We will do more work with conversions so anytime you can emphasize at home that 12 inches are in a foot, or that 3 feet are in a yard, or even give them some practice measuring it would be GREAT!
We checked our recall over fact and opinion while we played RAGS TO RICHES which is a game this week that reviewed our story. We all seemed to have no trouble distinguishing between fact and opinion and together as a class we WON $1,000,000 in the game! This game is on our website and would be a SUPER review before our selection test next Wednesday.
Then this afternoon we got busy making some SUPER COOL monster Valentines boxes. It was neat to see which kiddos had wrapping experience and which ones were a little lost. After some encouragement though, we all covered our boxes with red paper. Then we cut big mouths in them and went to town making them look like Valentine monsters. These will hold our valentines that our friends bring to school. Our party will be on Friday so valentines can start coming to school any day next week. I will send a class list home on Monday so that everyone will have the correct spellings of their classmates names.
This weekend they may need to finish:
1. The morning work conversion paper
2. A multiplication worksheet
*They need the paper with their book title and character listed for our living museum by MONDAY.
*By Wednesday they need an empty two liter pop bottle.
*Also our Feb. AR challenge is in full swing so if they don't have 4 points they could READ.
Enjoy the nice weather and have a GREAT weekend!
