I start with this title because I am not sure that the kids are too excited about that after today! Boy oh boy have we gotten a little lazy with all of the days I have not been here. I told them I will be here everyday this week and we have a lot to do to get things back in shape. I think they groaned a little and probably with each of their groans, my husband was sighing a little relief. He was thinking "yea, they will keep her busy for awhile and I can skip out on my physical therapy!" and the kids are thinking, "oh no, we HAVE to get our work done now, no more slacking off!". It wouldn't be the Town of Sweets though if I didn't push them to do their VERY BEST so with that said, please be sure to check AGENDAS each night. Make sure they are finishing up ALL of their homework so that they are staying caught up and I can see how well they are understanding the lessons I have taught them.
Today in reading we started the story, "Hottest, Coldest, Highest, Deepest" which is a nonfiction story about some wonders around the world. We talked about the difference between the words "compare" and "contrast" and explored how an author might use these things to help us better understand facts he is sharing in his story. There are a lot of REALLY COOL sites for us to explore on our website and trust me when I say we will be researching some VERY INTERESTING RECORD HOLDERS over the next two weeks. In centers we read the story, worked on our Kansas Day center posters, and looked at our website.
In math we finished up a few loose ends with Chapter 5 and then started Chapter 6. We will be doing a lot of GEOMETRY in this chapter. Today's focus was on parallel lines, intersecting lines, and right angles. Everyone did a GREAT job with these vocabulary terms.

-Monday-Tuesday #7 English page
-a double up random number sheet
-a reading cloze passage sheet over the reading story
Please ask your son or daughter what they will be teaching about for our Kansas Day stations. They are getting very excited about this. We will present our stations in the morning to Mrs. Elder's side and then attend their wax museum in the afternoon. Today we did spend some time looking at good examples of posters people have made to use as a graphic aide as they are teaching. We talked about different ways posters can be made so that they are eye catching and also how important it is to fill up the poster space. We will work more on these throughout the week, but the kiddos can take them home to work on them some as well. You might see if your son or daughter feels like they need to work some on this at home.
As many of you know, we have had a wonderful teacher in our district pass away. Her funeral will be held on Thursday so we will not have school on that day to accommodate the people who plan to attend the service.

I hope to encourage the children in my classroom to love learning the way I do. Through engaging them in meaningful activities I am certain they will develop a curiosity that will spark their imagination and cause them to want discover all they can while in third grade. I hope to be able to share, with those of you at home, everyday what we have accomplished in the classroom! Trust me, we will be doing AMAZING things!
