We also spent time at our technology center practicing our spelling words for tomorrow's test! Don't forget to review those words so we can ALL score a 100% on these tests! Then to finish our centers we read all about HUMPBACK WHALES and the hydrophones scientists use to listen to all of the sounds these whales make. We discovered lots of information about these whales because our article we were reading came from a Ranger Rick magazine and marine biologist, Joe Moby was the one interviewed for the article. We discussed the importance of finding an expert in the field to talk to when you are reporting information about a certain topic. Everyone agreed that this marine biologist was a BETTER resource then even Mrs. Jenkins would be when the topic is HUMPBACK WHALES.
This afternoon we were divided up into different teams of scientists and we worked VERY HARD to clean up an oil spill. Our team had to decide what materials would be best in this situation. We found the WHOLE activity extremely challenging. The determination of each team was AMAZING. Some teams hardly had any ocean water left when they finished. Other teams diluted their water so that the oil particles were sooooo small that removing them was next to impossible. Two groups worked so EFFICIENTLY they earned themselves some SCIENTIST PAY and a SPECIAL DRINK to help them reap the benefits of their teamwork! By the end of this activity there was definitely more oil on our carpet then in our oceans! =)
Tonight they might need to finish:
-math journal page 89-90
-morning work paper over ways to make a dollar
-read an AR book if you need points to qualify for our celebration
Have a GREAT evening!
