Today we started a new story, "A Day's Work" and boy did that ever spark a GREAT discussion on honesty, hard work, and appreciating what we have. Several of the kids could identify with Fransico and the mistake he made by telling a small, simple lie. His grandfather helped him see the importance of doing the right thing though and everything ended fine. We are able to listen to the story on our website as well as listen to a couple of other stories Eve Bunting has written. Our reading centers kept us on our toes too and LOTS of the class has their Flat Person finished!
In math we worked more on subtraction. We will finish chapter two this week and on Friday take our Chapter 2 test! Any practice the kids can do at home to review those subtraction skills would be really helpful! Later on in the afternoon, we watched a Brain Pop video over Christopher Columbus. We took a quiz over the information and only missed one question! I was really impressed with all they knew about Columbus already! After this we practiced our gardening skills and planted both a bean seed and a pumpkin seed. We plan to watch those all week and see which seed grows roots first. They are hanging in the window so we need some SUN tomorrow!
Tonight they may need to finish:
1. The morning work - working with the Dillons ad
2. A locating a sentence activity - they will need a reading book for this
3. Journal page 49-50
4. A math riddle page (I did tell them they could work on this page tomorrow and that it was not due until Wednesday morning).
*You might ask them how they are doing on AR. Our October celebration cut off is Oct. 31st. Each of them received a note from me this morning letting them know how many points they have earned so far! They need to be READING, READING, READING so EVERYONE can attend the celebration!
Have a GREAT evening!
