What a HECTIC day for sure! It's not that we had too many places to go, but boy oh boy was it hard for us to stay on task. I am hoping all the talk of upcoming SNOW is the reason it was so hard for us to listen today. If it is then this teacher is ready for the STORM to come and go.
I spent quite a bit of time this morning reviewing classroom rules and redirecting kiddos to make sure everyone was on task. By this afternoon they were tired of hearing "rule #2" and ready to settle in and listen a little better.
It seems we are forgetting how we should treat people so since our story this week was about how people treated Ikarus Jackson, I decided to make time for a couple of character lessons for us. We discussed how important it is to treat others in a kind and respectful way. Then we took some time to reflect on our character. The kiddos had to decide on five words that described their character. They were not suppose to use words like "short" or "dark hair", but instead use words that described their "Inside" such as "patient" or "kind". For some of them this was a tough lesson, but a good one. It gave them a chance to think a little about their actions and hopefully reminded them how they want to be seen by others.
This afternoon we took some time for SCIENCE. We looked at Newtons laws of motion and then experimented with the law that states, "for every action their is an equal and opposite reaction". We made magnus flyers and then tested them out by competing against one another. MISS VIVIAN LINN was our champion. Her flyer spun and lifted. Every thought she had it figured out because her flyer covered some ground! Way to go Vivian!
Tonight they may need to finish:
1. Journal page over 7.1
2. Recalling details morning work page
3. Their winged person project
*Remember AR points are due tomorrow and we also have a spelling test tomorrow!
Have a GREAT evening!
Look at this BUSY, BUSY classroom!
Needless to say, it took us quite a bit of time to clean. I think we ALL decided that we weren't taking time to write a ransom note anytime soon!
Pictures were sent home tonight for parents to see as well. Please ask your son or daughter to show you that so you have an opportunity to order pictures if you would like to.
Also we are still collecting pennies for patients so be sure to try and find some extra change lying around to help with this great cause.
a few of Newton's theories and a lesson on our own character are just a couple things we accomplished today!
I hope to encourage the children in my classroom to love learning the way I do. Through engaging them in meaningful activities I am certain they will develop a curiosity that will spark their imagination and cause them to want discover all they can while in third grade. I hope to be able to share, with those of you at home, everyday what we have accomplished in the classroom! Trust me, we will be doing AMAZING things!
