Chinese dragon fun
In the mid-1800s, many people from China started immigrating (or moving from another country) to the United States. Many came to California during the Gold Rush. Later, they began to look for work in places like New York. They built their own community, which became known as Chinatown. The Chinese in Chinatown opened and worked in businesses such as restaurants, laundries, and clothing factories. Mr. Kang's Golden Dragon Restaurant in the story would've been located here!
Sara Delano Roosevelt park in NYC
This park is an actual place in New York City, and there is actually a Hua Mei Bird Garden inside the park. In real life, older Chinese gentlemen bring their hua meis to the park, just like Mr. Kang meets his friends with their birds to listen to them sing. The park also has a basketball court, roller skating rink, and soccer field.
